Meet Sandra

Sandra Rodriguez is a leader who understands the needs of Southwest Houston’s District J. She is a native Houstonian and 34-year resident of the Gulfton neighborhood with over two decades of experience in public service.

Sandra’ experience has focused on areas of community engagement, community revitalization, education and the improvement of the social well-being of at-risk populations which makes her the ideal leader to amplify her work and be an agent of change for the communities of Southwest Houston.

Sandra is a product of Houston ISD schools within District J: Cunningham Elementary, Jane Long Middle School, and Lee High School, where she graduated at the top of her class. Her parents understood the importance of working hard, teaching her the importance of giving the best of yourself in every role you serve while treating others with respect.

Sandra’s environment inspired her to create a different life for herself and greater opportunities for her community. Outside the door of her family’s apartment she faced the challenges of a community plagued by gangs and violence. Beginning in high school she began seeking leadership roles to represent her classmates. This led Sandra to join the Mayor’s Anti-Gang Office. As a working mother raising two boys, she returned to school full time to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services.

Today, Sandra leads the Southwest Multi-Service Center and Hiram Clarke MultiService Center, and serves as the President of the Gulfton Super Neighborhood Council as well as a variety of other community-based organizations.
